Congratulations to Patience Mukeli Muvea, Chief Actuary at Liberty Life Kenya, for being recognised as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Women by Business Daily Africa! This prestigious honour reflects her remarkable leadership, dedication, and profound impact on society.
Patience’s love for STEM and problem-solving has driven her successful career, where she oversees reserves, pricing, and risk management. Married to physicist Mutuku Mulwa, she finds joy in both her professional and personal life. As a mentor to aspiring actuaries, Patience values order and discipline, often saying, “Stick to the life road, and things will work out.” Reflecting on her journey, she advises enjoying life’s moments and not rushing to grow up.
An Inspiring Story of Growth and Mentorship
In her role as Mentorship Pillar Head at the Actuarial Academy of East Africa (AAEA), Patience’s commitment to guiding and inspiring others has been a beacon of excellence within the mentorship community. Her achievements are not only a personal milestone but also a source of immense pride and motivation for all of us.
“I always struggle to write my own stories, but I am learning,” Patience shares. “Reflecting on my career journey and recent recognitions, both have been underpinned by building a successful career beyond self. I ponder how I can continue to extend my impact on my teams, Liberty Life Kenya, and the society and communities around me. It is from this that I realise I have begun to create a meaningful career and achieved social impact.”
A Journey of Purpose and Reflection
Patience acknowledges that there have been moments where she would have approached things differently. “As an obstinately ambitious person, sometimes the fuel to succeed makes me keep aspiring for the next ‘big thing.’ On reflection, I should have not been in a hurry to grow up. I should have slowed down and enjoyed the trappings of youth.”
Her journey emphasises the joy found in the process, not just the destination. “As long as you stick to the life road, things will eventually work out,” she says. “There are so many years ahead to do everything in its time.”
Future Plans: Deepening Impact and Mentorship
Looking ahead, Patience plans to deepen literacy levels in her home county of Kwale through mentorship and reading programs. She also aims to expand her work with The Actuarial Society of Kenya (TASK) and the Actuarial Academy of East Africa (AAEA) to create a closer impact at home.
“I am indebted to my community of family and friends, who elevate me and provide me with so much love and assurance,” Patience reflects.
