These are aimed at equipping students not only to pass the exams, but to ensure that the core reading objectives are understood and can be applied to actuarial work. It also ensures that key concepts are embedded in the long-term memory of the students.
The objective of the programme is to provide support to actuarial trainees (students and young professionals) in the East African market, and particularly targets those that may not have access to actuarial resources through their universities or workplaces.
Actuarial Science is a field that thrives at the intersection of academia and industry. We’re dedicated to bridging this gap by teaming up with universities to provide a holistic and real-world oriented actuarial education.
An industry survey has shown that it’s impossible for an Actuarial Science graduate in East Africa to get an entry level position (internship/attachment) without a minimum of two professional papers. ASF initiative targets students who need support to be able to do the professional papers.
I would definitely recommend this program to all aspiring actuaries as it gives insights into the lives of actuaries who have succeeded and hence will give invaluable insights.
This mentorship program has provided me with the opportunity to interact and learn from professionals in the field. I am grateful to my mentor Mukami Njeru who has encouraged me to attempt professional exams and provided me with valuable knowledge on how to make my actuarial path.
I saw the programme as an opportunity to get some guidance. I loved the fact that it connects students with experienced professionals who are ready to share their knowledge and experience.
I will forever be grateful to my mentor and the Academy for creating such a great mentorship program and for awarding me the candidacy to undergo this life-changing program.
This will see me embarking on an actuarial qualification route and establishing my actuarial career.
