Cyber Risk Masterclass:
The Actuarial Academy of East Africa (AAEA) is excited to offer an insightful Cyber Risk Masterclass designed for professionals and individuals keen on understanding the complexities of cyber risk management in today’s digital world. This comprehensive course aims to provide participants with a solid foundation in the area of cyber risk, offering both theoretical knowledge and practical insights to equip them for handling real-world cyber challenges.
Course Overview:
The Cyber Risk Masterclass will be delivered in four structured sessions, each focusing on essential topics related to cyber risk and its management. By the end of the course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the cyber landscape, the various threats it poses, and the best practices for risk management. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from the Actuarial Academy of East Africa.
Session Breakdown:
Part 1: Introduction to the Area of Cyber
Understanding Cyber Risk: Gain an understanding of what constitutes cyber risk, why it is crucial for businesses, governments, and individuals, and how it impacts various industries.
Different Types of Threat Actors: Learn about the diverse range of threat actors, including hackers, insiders, and state-sponsored attackers, and the methods they use to exploit vulnerabilities.
How a Cyber Event Can Occur: Explore the different ways in which cyber incidents can unfold, from data breaches to ransomware attacks, and understand the underlying vulnerabilities that make these events possible.
Managing Cyber Risk: Introduction to various strategies and tools for assessing and mitigating cyber risk, including risk assessments, cybersecurity frameworks, and incident response plans
Subsequent sessions (Parts 2–4) will build on these foundations, diving deeper into:
Quantifying cyber risk and modeling techniques
Cyber insurance and actuarial involvement
Regulatory considerations and the role of governance
Case studies and real-world application

CHRISTINE WAWEWU BIO:
Christine is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with nine years of experience in the insurance industry, currently specializing in cyber risk analytics. She began her career as an Actuarial Analyst at Deloitte Kenya, where she provided advisory services to insurers and banks. She later joined PwC UK as an Actuarial Consultant, working on a range of projects including reserving, IFRS 17 implementation, financial modeling, and other strategic initiatives within the general insurance space. It was during this time that Christine developed a strong interest in cyber risk quantification, prompting her to shift her professional focus toward cyber risk analytics.
Currently, Christine serves as a Cyber Actuary at CyberCube Analytics, where she specializes in quantifying cyber risk at both a catastrophic and single-risk level. Her work plays a critical role in driving innovation within the cyber insurance market, supporting insurers in risk assessment, pricing optimization, and portfolio management strategies. She has also contributed to the development of cutting-edge solutions for cyber insurance, helping insurers navigate the rapidly evolving cyber risk landscape.
Christine holds a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from Strathmore University and a Master’s degree in Actuarial Management from Bayes Business School. Beyond her professional role, she is passionate about mentoring aspiring actuaries and remains dedicated to shaping the future of cyber risk management within the insurance industry.
