Biography

Ben is a non executive director and holds a B.Comm (Hons) Insurance Option from the University of Nairobi and an MBA holder and currently undertaking a PhD program. He is a Chartered Insurer of the CII London and Fellow of several Insurance Institutes, amongst others in Kenya and Uganda. He is also an Associate of the Institute of Risk Management (UK).

He had a distinguished career in the Insurance industry for over 15 years and held senior posts. He has a wide network and exposure in the East African Region and beyond with the insurance industry and the wider financial markets.

He is the Director for Programmes for Africa under the Association of Insurance Trainers Educators in Africa having been recently elected in Cairo, during the African Insurance Organisation –AIO General Assembly. He has been a Corporate Manager, Consultant, Lecturer, Facilitator and Trainer. He has been a consultant for the Inter University Council of East Africa, a Post Graduate Lecturer at Uganda Management Institute (UMI).

He is currently the Coordinator for the coordinator for the Regional Certification in Agricultural Insurance. He is currently the Coordinator capacity building for the World Bank Index-Based Weather Risk Management Programs for Eastern and Southern Africa a program funded by European Union’s All ACP Agricultural Commodities Programme (AAACP). He is also the lead Coordinator for the COMESA USAID/COMPETE sponsored Regional Agricultural Insurance Certification program. He has undertaken training on weather index, price volatility and commodity derivatives with a view of leading capacity building in the region for these programs.

He is a member of FARMD – the Global Forum for Agricultural Risk Management in Development (an arm of the World Bank). He has attended several high profile seminars/ workshops including on Beyond the Balance Score Card, Corporate Governance and Risk Management. A number of manuscripts on insurance and risk management have been credited to him.
